             How are we alike?

Class Brainstorm

Student Notes

Which values are important to us? Where do our values fit with the values of our friends at Presbyterian Day School?

What virtues are similar?

Student notes from discussion:

Thinking about...

What do you see that is similar?  How can you show the connections? What are the key ideas that are similar? What could represent these similarities and connections? (sketch, image, object, photo, etc.)

Whatsoever things are lovely:

Class Discussion

Lovely means to us making the world beautiful or staying beautiful in heart ourselves.  That is like being kind to others -- being generous from ourselves to others. And being kind and  generous is not always easy; it takes effort. We try to be lovely.

Class Connection: Sketch and Explanation

Lovely, Effort, GenerosityIf we want the world to be lovely, we can plant and care for flowers. The effort will result in a beautiful flower, which can be generously given to someone, which is a lovely thing to do.

Whatsoever things are pure

Class Discussion:

Things that are pure are clean. We can be pure if we don't put drugs or alcohol in our bodies. We can be pure if we use good words and not bad words, like cuss words or mean words.  That would show self-respect, to stay healthy in your body and mind. That is not easy, so that would take effort.  If you show kindness and goodness --not being mean -- you are being generous.

Student individual sketches and class discussion:

Sketch by Enmo

If we grow flowers, that takes effort. It shows self-respect to take effort to grow the flower. When the flower is ready, we can be generous and and give the flower away.  That is a kind thing to do.  That is being pure with your heart.

Sketch by Sanric

If someone falls down and is hurt, they call out, "Can you help me?"  No matter how busy the person is, the person says, "Yeah." They are generous to offer help. That takes effort to be helpful. It shows self-respect, especially because you say, "No problem," when the person you helped says, "Thanks." No one asks for money; they just are generous with their help.  If you give of yourself like this, that is pure in heart.

Sketch by Elbe

If we want to be pure in our body by being healthy, we can grow lettuce in a garden. That takes effort to take care of a garden.  It shows self-respect to want to take care of yourself. When the lettuce is ready, we can share a salad; that is generous. The other person says, "Thank you."

Sketch by Rellder

To be pure, eat healthy, like apples.  It takes effort to grow and pick apples and to choose to eat healthy. That shows you have self-respect to take care of yourself. When you have picked your apples, you share with your neighbor in generosity.

We have a whiteboard and desks for students to be learning for their mind to be pure.  Students are generous by working and helping in class.  It takes effort to stay learning and working, and that shows self-respect to choose to learn and work.

Do you see the church?  A pure thing to do is to go to church.  You show self-repect if you take time to go to church and to plant the flowers by the church.  You are generous to plant those flowers. It takes effort to go to church and to plant the beautiful flowers.

If you wrestle, you show effort to get into shape for your team.  That shows self-respect. When you finish your match, you thank your opponent; that shows self-respect and generosity.  Even if you lose, you thank them.  That shows you are pure in your heart.

Sketch by Jamon

On a wrestling team, each player needs to be healthy and in shape. A healthy body is being pure and showing self-respect. That takes effort to be in shape and to wrestle an opponent.  Whether you win or lose, you are generous when you tell your opponent "Good job."

How do our EAGLEs traits match up with our friends' motto?

We love what you have done here! We are seeing just how much we all have in common with you. We focus on the very traits that you have listed here. What tool did you use to record your information? It looks really neat. Is this the white board that we hear everyone talking about?

It's magic! Really we have projector and a whiteboard connected to the computer. A special pen writes on the board and records what we write with pen. We are glad that you guys got our message and our comment.

Do you like our comments on mapskip? We loved reading about Memphis.
